The trainee will also assist in developing sections of plans for simpler highway projects, which may include tasks such as resurfacing, restoration, rehabilitation, lane widening, and improvements to safety and intersections. Additionally, the trainee will engage in basic calculations, aiding in the establishment of grade lines, gradient computations, and the assessment of earthwork and material quantities, as well as assisting in the plotting of roadway and channel templates on cross-sectional views. The preparation of plans will encompass a range of documents, from initial sketches to finalized construction plans, including right-of-way maps, centerline drawings, profiles, topographical layouts, cross sections, drainage plans, and final construction documentation. Furthermore, the trainee will help create soils maps that highlight geographical problem areas, along with deed plot drawings, viewer plans, and various other charts and diagrams. Participation in field trips with project engineers will also be a key component of the program, allowing the trainee to assist in taking measurements, making notes, and creating sketches on-site.
