Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Machinist to be based out of Phoenix, AZ. Reporting the Value Stream Manager, this person will be responsible for this person will set up and operate the full complement of machine tools to machine a variety of parts to meet time and quality standards. Develop sequence of operations and perform complete programming for complex parts on CNC machine tools.

The ideal candidate will have a diploma from a Machinist Apprentice Training Program with a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Machinist. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Receive and interpret oral/written instructions from supervisor(s) and/or assigned personnel
  • Improvise complex set ups, determine operations sequences and optimum cutting parameters
  • Work from oral/written instructions including sketches, samples, data sheets or blueprints
  • Operate full complement of machine tools, performing full range of machining operations on a variety of large and complex parts
  • Program CNC tools to machine complex shapes and contours and optimize selection and position of tools in tool holder


  • Repair, parts manufacture reassembly and installation of all types of motors, generators, pumps, valves, turbines, etc.



What you'll bring:



  • High school graduate or recognized equivalent
  • Must have at least four (4) years of experience as a Machinist B or recognized equivalent
  • Knowledge of vertical and horizontal boring mills, engine lathe, shaper, slotter, CNC machine tools, vertical milling machines, etc. Auto-Cad and Gibbs virtual machining software programs.



Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of your team.
  • Gain an understanding of the training materials and EHS policies.



Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Learn programming sequences.
  • Get familiar with the CAD system.
  • Sharper your mechanical aptitude skills.



Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Using the CAD system on a regular basis.
  • Using the CAM system on a regular basis.
  • Trouble shoot, repair and reverse engineer customer parts.
