Lead with Purpose as Director of Environmental, Health & Safety

Step into a pivotal leadership role where safety isn't just a priority; it's the mission at American Ordnance. As Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), you will be at the forefront, setting the strategy that drives our compliance initiatives and ensures operational excellence across all safety programs. Your impact will be felt across the company as you collaborate with various federal agencies, conduct audits of site performance, and lead thorough investigations. Additionally, you will be instrumental in shaping policies that safeguard our workforce and the environment. If you're an experienced EHS professional with a keen focus on continuous improvement, an aptitude for stakeholder engagement, and a dedication to cultivating a robust safety culture, this is your opportunity to lead and create lasting change.

Your role as the Director- Environmental, Health, & Safety:

  • In this role, you will be responsible for planning, formulating, implementing, and executing occupational and explosives safety standards within our facility. This includes a focus on Safety Engineering, Safety and Health Programs, Safety Review Submissions, Industrial Hygiene, and Radiation Protection, ensuring all compliance contexts are met with precision.
  • You will periodically audit EHS programs and policies, evaluating their effectiveness and developing a comprehensive tracking system. Your analytical skills will come into play as you review incident data to identify root causes and work collaboratively with stakeholders on corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
  • Acting as the company's representative and liaison, you will engage with a variety of external entities such as EHS federal, state, and local agencies, customers, suppliers, and law enforcement, effectively articulating our safety protocols and commitment.
  • Through special studies and rigorous investigations, you will determine the origin, causes, and contributing elements of hazardous situations, providing direction on mitigation strategies to enhance workplace safety.
  • Oversight of OSHA safety and HAZMAT programs will be crucial. You'll ensure the availability of essential safety information and materials, including Material Safety Data Sheets and proper labeling of hazardous materials and industrial support equipment.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • An in-depth knowledge of explosive safety protocols, health and safety plans, proper munitions storage procedures, and vehicle safety practices is essential for this position.
  • Prior experience with explosive safety, radiation safety, laser safety, and familiarity with Agile methodologies, Oracle software, DOD standards, and NFPA regulations is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated Project Management capabilities will be crucial, enabling you to oversee various safety initiatives effectively.
  • Strong People Management skills are desired, as you will guide teams and facilitate a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or Safety Engineering, or an equivalent field is required; a Master's degree in a related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in EHS management is preferred, reflecting a deep understanding of industry standards and practices.
  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are preferred.
  • This role may require a U.S. government secret clearance due to the nature of the projects involved.
  • Must possess a valid REAL ID-compliant drivers license, which includes the gold or black star in the upper corner, indicating it is federally compliant.
  • A positive attitude and a genuine commitment to teamwork are essential qualities for success in this role.
  • Successful completion of a background screening process will be required where applicable.



In compliance with this states pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $127,680 - $191,520. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).

  • Ability to withstand environmental conditions (e.g. extreme heat or cold, grass, wind, sand, fumes, odors, gases, extreme noise, etc.)
