The Mass General Brigham Assistant Chief Quality Officer (Assistant CQO) will report to the MGB Associate Chief Quality Officer within the MGB Office of the Chief Medical Officer. This leader will have responsibility for ensuring execution of various functions as needed within the portfolio of the Chief Quality Officer (outcomes, safety, infection control, performance improvement, compliance/regulatory, clinical documentation improvement, home care and home hospital quality, risk management, patient reported outcomes, quality contracting) across the Mass General Brigham system.
The Assistant CQO will work with leaders across MGB to oversee development and implementation of system-wide clinical quality strategies developed by MGB's Office of the Chief Medical Officer. The Assistant CQO will represent the MGB Associate CQO or MGB CQO as needed on projects and committees within the system and will function as a clinical leader and advisor on issues as they impact Quality. By establishing professional and personal credibility with Mass General Brigham management, the Assistant CQO will establish a tone of leadership which is professional, progressive, equity-informed and outcome- and quality-oriented. General Responsibilities - Visible physician leader-advocate for patients and high-quality care across all care settings - Lead or participate in system-wide Quality initiatives, which will mainly relate to clinical outcomes improvement but could also include initiatives related to patient safety, clinical compliance, patient experience or health equity. - Advise as a key physician executive expert in hospital-based Quality to other areas within MGB, as determined by the Associate CQO. - As appropriate, represents the MGB Associate CQO and MGB CQO as needed at various internal leadership meetings as well as to external audiences. - Serve as the primary physician leader for management of the quality contracting slate (both private and government payers) Quality - In close collaboration with the Associate CQO and CQO, the Assistant CQO will serve as a visionary leader and champion for key quality initiatives across the enterprise. This leader is responsible and held accountable for promoting, supporting, or leading the execution of system clinical goals. - Utilize data and coordinate with MGB leadership to analyze trends, identify and prioritize patient quality improvement opportunities, and propose mitigation plans. - Serve as a physician leader and liaison to MGB digital for Quality related components of digital build for the system. - Work closely with hospital Associate Chief Medical Officers/Chief Medical Officers, hospital and system clinical operations teams, and others as needed to improve on key performance metrics and implement quality improvement initiatives. - Serve as an accountable leader for improving any and all quality metrics as defined by the system as being prioritized and having opportunity. - Serve as a system physician leader to embedded enterprise hospital quality teams. - Primary physician leader organizing and overseeing the quality contracting slate and performance for the hospitals, liaising with government and payer relationship team, population health management, and data/registry teams as needed. Other responsibilities - This role will be a core part of the OCMO and OCQO leadership teams. As such, it is anticipated that this role will provide physician executive leadership to a variety of areas and interventions across the MGB system, as needed by the Associate CQO. These interventions occur in quality, safety, compliance, risk management, performance improvement, infection control, equity, etc. - This role will be the primary physician leader for a significant number of system safety events, recalls, shortages, etc, and lead a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and successful resolution of such events. Because this is a leadership role in an active change management environment, the contours of this role may change over time.
