The Senior Project Manager has direct oversight of multiple projects related to various initiatives at UMass Memorial Health (UMMH). Plans and manages the delivery of large complex projects that typically have high visibility, impact across multiple-entities and/or have direct impact on strategic plan. Develops project timelines, performs analyses, identifies potential solutions and collaborates with leaders, providers and staff to develop best practice recommendations for multiple levels of projects.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. In collaboration with hospital and department stakeholders, designs large complex projects and initiatives. Works independently with leaders to develop project scopes and timeframes. Provides expert advice and coaching on best practices and project management principles and methodologies.
2. Maintains understanding of the relationship between business need, functional requirements, technology solutions. Translates needs, issues, and ideas into effective strategies and action plans. Leads workflow evaluations as necessary to document current and future state, identify inefficiencies and opportunities. Analyzes findings and recommends process improvements.
3. Effectively manages large complex projects from conception to completion, including establishing a team, project plan, timeline and deliverables. Manages project support and provides leadership for cross-functional teams. Facilitates open communication and provides effective direction, guidance and leadership to project teams to ensure effective teamwork and motivation.
4. Establishes and implements project metrics, adjusting team activities and managing internal and external resources as necessary to ensure success of the project. Reports, analyzes, and synthesizes data from reporting systems for communications and for project direction. Finds solutions to barriers that arise and advises senior leaders as appropriate to ensure timely and measurable success of projects.
5. Creates regular project communications materials for key constituencies. Analyzes and produces compelling reports for internal audiences. Develops and delivers presentations related to projects at the department or entity level for informational and/or promotional purposes.
6. Evaluates and recommends vendors for the potential purchase of services or products as needed for project development or management; evaluates and pilots services and products; partners with leadership to make and implement selections.
7. Recommends and contributes to the development of appropriate training and educational materials and collaborates with administrative and clinical staff regarding initiatives.
8. As necessary, serves on designated organizational committees with the purpose of providing a broad perspective.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field.

Preferred:
1. Master's degree in Business, Healthcare or related field strongly preferred.
2. Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).

Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. Eight years related work experience in Business, Healthcare or related field, including five years of experience in complex project management from planning through completion.
2. Proven expert ability to manage large complex projects, set priorities, and meet appropriate timeframes.
3. Proven ability to work with end users in eliciting and documenting requirements and other project artifacts.
4. Proven ability to facilitate business requirements gathering sessions with multiple stakeholders.
5. Must be able to work independently and function as a team member who fosters effective communication and coordination of department efforts.
6. Must show willingness to be flexible and adaptable to change in priorities.
7. Strong organizational skills.
8. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and presentation skills.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, in particular PowerPoint, Excel and Word, in addition to a working knowledge of Access. Experience using project application tools such as Microsoft Project.

Preferred:
1. A working knowledge of patient-centered care principles, performance improvement standards and methodology, and Lean Management principles.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary.Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
