As a member of the Sustaining Engineering team, you would join other smart, talented, and dedicated engineers that pride themselves in analyzing the most difficult challenges for the launch-test range while developing and delivering solutions to meet the needs of the US Space Force and their customers.

This position is located at Patrick Space Force Base, Florida.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid telecommuting schedule. Tasks for this position must be performed largely on-site, but some assignments may be performed remotely.

Essential Functions

  • Build and lead a team to develop and manage the Launch Test Range System (LTRS) Support System (LSS) Virtual Test Bed and Development Environment
  • Actively participate in the development of our coordinated LTRS Spend Plan and Roadmap to ensure software obsolescence and deficiencies are corrected to maintain operational availability of LTRS Central processing systems within virtual platforms of the enterprise LSS
  • Technical and managerial leadership of, and day to day guidance, for multiple projects and mission application teams and resources to include personnel
  • Planning and prioritization of technology upgrades, implementations, and changes to ensure transition of legacy processing systems to the government cloud environments after buildup and verification within the LSS Virtual Development environment.
  • Oversight and development of business case justifications and procurement approval requests
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships required across the space range enterprise - business partners, product vendors, technology suppliers, staffing partners, peers, and government customers to ensure top quality software solution delivery
  • Directly lead teams in the execution of digital and technology projects and programs to achieve our mission software sustainment objectives
  • Responsible for the cost and schedule, planning and reporting for assigned applications and projects, working with project managers
  • Assess software engineering project execution to meet project schedules
  • Ensure adherence to and continuously improve software engineering processes/procedures
  • Follow RGNext standards and management policies
  • Identify technical and programmatic issues and escalate to management
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to software engineering staff on meeting commitments, applying RGNext standards for quality, providing customer service, or achieving contractual obligations
  • Prepare and provide progress and status reports, and briefings as required or requested, to inform department and program management of anticipated performance success, issues, and improvement initiatives
  • Review and provide recommendations for various software engineering efforts and project proposals
  • Assist in establishing, monitoring, and adjusting budgets and spending
  • Interface with peers and managers to ensure successful engineering support
  • Maintain an understanding of Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), Space Launch Deltas 45 and 30 and RGNext policies, procedures, and organizational responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Ability to resolve matters/issues in a positive manner
  • Proven ability to properly manage project timeline and financials including budget preparation, cost management, purchase orders, and vendor support agreements
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. The position requires frequent communication with senior leaders, technical colleagues and partners across several different geographic locations and time zones
  • Team building, mentoring and guidance skills to provide oversight and direction to contractors and internal members of the software development team
  • Ability to handle virtual teams and work with resources in multiple sites (onsite, teleworkers, cross-range)

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • Master's Degree in STEM or Engineering Management preferred
  • Five or more years of experience in the software engineering activities, projects, and personnel in large-scale central cloud processing environments, including a minimum of two years of leadership experience
  • Experience leading technical software sustainment teams providing 24x7 support of critical mission applications
  • Solid understanding of the software development life cycle (e.g. requirements, analysis, design, implementation, testing, and documentation) and associated execution models (e.g. Waterfall, Agile, Iterative Development, etc.)
  • Experience in projects/programs that leverage resources and knowledge across functional boundaries
  • Extensive proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project and program commitments
  • Ability to travel occasionally between launch ranges (Florida, California)
  • DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
