The Marketing, Communications and Graphic Design Professional will be responsible for creating multimedia content, including marketing materials, social media posts, and other products that support college and university strategic goals.

The communicator will be responsible for executing multiple communication campaigns and creating audience-appropriate content that promotes the college and its programs to current and prospective students and their families, industry, alumni, donors and peer institutions. This position will be responsible for producing compelling marketing and editorial content for emails, event campaigns, publications, website, print collateral, social media, and other outlets. This position requires creativity, versatility, and a passion for finding new, engaging ways to tell a story, as well as the technical knowledge to utilize applicable marketing vehicles.

The ideal candidate is comfortable telling stories in a variety of mediums and is passionate about sharing authentic voices. They will demonstrate a commitment to equity and uphold university values. We are looking for a creative thinker that will seek out ways to deliver messages effectively to various audiences.

The communicator will be an organized, collaborative individual who can thrive in a deadline-driven environment and have strong project management skills. They should possess excellent writing and oral communication skills and have a proven ability to share stories in creative and accessible ways.

The communicator reports to the Vice Chancellor for Communications and is a trusted partner for the Dean at the College of Engineering, Computing and Design. The individual does not supervise individuals but must have a strong collaborative mindset to coordinate and lead communication for the college.

Marketing, Communications and Graphic Design Professional

What you will do:




  • Perform interviews, gather information, and develop written and multi-media content.



  • Compose and/or edit articles and marketing copy for employee publications and newsletters, social media, emails, blog posts, posters, and video scripts.



  • Contribute to all technical aspects of publishing posters, flyers, brochures, presentations, magazine and web articles, and webpages.



  • Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc. to generate any print collateral that cannot be produced in-house.



  • Produce brochures, newsletters, Web graphics, informational graphics, event materials, signage, direct mail pieces, and other projects.



  • Create rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts.



  • Distribute and post communications materials via website, blogs, newsletters, social media, etc.



  • Maintain strong brand identity across all communication and marketing materials.



  • Collaborate with departments and campus partners to develop and implement materials consistent with strategic initiatives and branding.



  • Participate in events to gather marketing and communications events.



  • Attend campus communications and college staff meetings to provide project updates and to stay educated on other division priorities and projects.



  • Other duties as assigned.




Social Media and Digital Marketing




  • Distribute and post communications materials via website, blogs, newsletters, social media, etc.



  • Provide graphics and consult with UComm on strategy for Marketing Cloud promotional emails.



  • Coordinate with UCOMM and CU System to prepare and execute communications with internal and external audiences using Salesforce following university policies and best practices.



  • Promote training and efforts to align communications consistent with university brand, CEDC leadership goals.



  • Monitor and evaluate electronic media and marketing efforts utilizing effective metrics. Report usage, track traffic, monitor trends and gauge success of strategies, processes and tactics.



  • Create and execute strategy for growing social media following and track using appropriate metrics to adjust and inform.



  • Stay abreast of emerging social media trends, website design and functionality, and other technologies



  • Update and select photos and visuals for digital communications including the website.



  • Collaborate with other members of the college and UComm to coordinate college-wide and university wide campaigns.




Website Maintenance




  • Design website pages that are user-friendly, attractive, and engaging, while remaining true to the university and college brand and promoting the college's image and values.



  • Regularly upgrade and update website to keep it fresh and engaging for users.



  • Make sure all website content is optimized for search engines to drive more traffic to pages.



  • In collaboration with CEDC and UCOMM leadership, analyze metrics and adjust strategies to enhance website engagement.



  • Test pages across multiple browsers (and mobile) to check the layout and ensure pages load properly on popular browsers and platforms.



  • Troubleshoot problems affecting the website's performance, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.



  • Ensure website is accessible and compliant with CU, state and federal regulations



  • Update and select photos and visuals for digital communications including the website.




Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • One (1) year in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field


Substitution: A bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications to possess (Preferred Qualifications)




  • Experience using CSS, HTMP and/or a content management system for website design (Sitefinity, Druplo)



  • Previous experience in higher education communication.



  • Higher education marketing experience



  • Proficiency in using content management systems.



  • Experience in Adobe Creative suite, Adobe Premier, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator Photoshop, social media platforms, and other design and creative programs.



  • Knowledge/experience with shooting video and basic editing for web and social media content.


  • Experience creating collateral for diverse platforms (web, print, social media) and audiences.

Conditions of Employment



  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

  • As an aspiring best place to work, this position offers flexibility. After a 90-day start up period, this employee will have the opportunity to work 3 days in office and 2 days remote. To be successful in this role, the employee is expected to split their time between University Communications and the College of Engineering, Computing and Design as necessary to complete projects. Work space will be provided in each department within proximity of each other. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $56,614 - $62,573.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
