POSITION TITLE: MINISTRY PROGRAM SUPPORT SPECIALIST
STATUS: REGULAR FULL TIME / NON-EXEMPT
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER

GENERAL STATEMENT:
The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
Serves the Yakima Corps by assisting the Corps Officer in planning, coordinating, administrating, monitoring, evaluating, and developing the day-to-day operations of the Corps. Develop and lead various Corps programs; participate with adult and senior programming and support youth programming, as needed. Oversee and support, as directed, seasonal programs such as Day Camp, Christmas efforts, Vacation Bible School, and the arrangements of such events. Supervise assigned staff and/or volunteers including work and volunteer opportunity scheduling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:

* Assist Corp Officer in developing, leading and/or supporting Salvation Army mission programs and ministries of the Corps; plans, develops and coordinates bridging events between the Corps and Corps Social Services and persons served in mission, clubs, centers, schools, shelters, etc.
* Assist with the promotion of growing Corps programs and services in the local City of Yakima community.
* Support the planning and coordination of special events and programming.
* Represent The Salvation Army at community and inter-agency meetings, as needed and directed, following prescribed Salvation Army guidelines.
* Responsible for managing Corps rentals, including the processing of Property Use Agreements, renters' Certificate of Insurance. Ensure a staff member is on site during rental use period, and appropriate take down and clean up.
* Provide transportation as needed for adult and youth programming.
* Develop and utilize volunteers from the faith-based community and Salvation Army members to help in the implementation of ministry projects and programs.
* Attend meetings as needed such as emergency management, faith-based partnership, and non-profit alliance network.
* Submit payroll changes or status change issues as necessary.
* Submit bills and invoices on a timely and accurate basis. As a corporate credit card holder, process receipts weekly.
* Ensure timely completion for all program statistical reports.
* Record and process all donations, according to the Salvation Army policies.
* Support all other work-related needs, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

* Associate or college degree preferred in social services or related field, preferred; high school diploma or GED required
* Minimum of ten years of experience in ministerial or social services fields
* Two to three years working with, and leading, volunteers
* Two to three years of supervision experience
* A combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience with The Salvation Army and its mission and programs, is preferred.
* Ability to work varying work hours depending on programming and needs, and scheduling requirements.
* Culinary or cooking skills, preferred
* Bilingual with the Spanish language, preferred.
* Successfully complete Salvation Army child safety and vulnerable adult training - Protect the Misson - and ability to adhere to mandatory reporting laws for both vulnerable children and adults
* Possess a valid State of Washington Driver's License
* Must be over 21 years of age and pass the Salvation Army driving requirements, including passing a Motor Vehicle Report
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
* Experience with learning and using other data collection software programs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
* Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
* Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
* Ability to operate telephone.
* Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
* Ability to lift 20 lbs.
* Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
* Ability to understand written information.
* Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be 21 years of age.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated without noise, dust, dirt and similar.

Work Schedule / Location:
Monday through Friday; 40 hours per week, in-person at The Salvation Army Yakima Corps. Weekly hours may vary to oversee program events with then adjusting the workweek.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:



  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.


Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
