POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Payroll will oversee and direct all aspects of payroll processing and reconciliation. This role will lead a compliant & efficient payroll department to ensure the accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll process for 4 legal entities with 15,000+ employees in multiple states. They will manage and direct a team of payroll professionals with primary responsibilities of ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local wage and hour laws, including collective bargaining agreements. This role requires a systems-minded and detail-oriented team player with an aptitude for continuous improvement and compliance.es. Position: Director of Payroll Department: Human Resources Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Provide proactive leadership to a team of payroll professionals in maintaining and improving payroll practices and related information management. Leads, develops, and supports direct reports by ensuring team members have the appropriate skills and resources to accomplish their objectives, and provides constructive and timely performance feedback. Provide cross-functional leadership with Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Operations, and other departments in meeting payroll processing, timekeeping and reporting objectives. Leverages business knowledge/payroll systems expertise and collaborates with the payroll team to recommend, develop, and implement process improvements. Identifies and improves performance variances (for example, timely payroll runs, hours not entered, hours missing, time not approved, retroactive adjustments, errors, discrepancies). Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and provincial wage and hour laws, as well as collective bargaining agreements. Maintains open communications regarding payroll processing developments affecting employees. Maintains relationships with payroll service providers (for example, Workday, UKG/Kronos, ADP consultants) in driving best practices in payroll processing and reporting. Ensures consistent compliance with all required accounting controls and polices. Responsible for all year-end tax reporting related to payroll. Oversees the development of new tools and solutions to ensure appropriate payroll information is available to our employees and managers in a timely and efficient manner.
Job Requirements EDUCATION:
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors plus 8-10 years minimum leading payroll in a complex, multi-organization company or Minimum of 20 years experience in Payroll
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):
Experience being an effective leader with management and coaching skills Detail-oriented, deadline-driven and works well under pressure with a high degree of accuracy Excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills Flexible, able to perform and deliver excellent results under high pressure Multi-state, multi-entity (FEIN) tax reconciliation, depositing and reporting experience Proven track record of strategic project management and best practices implementation Organized, efficient with the ability to handle multiple tasks and resolve issues effectively Experience with Workday/UKG and required Experience in healthcare preferred
