The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in Old Westbury, NY Biomedical Sciences Department invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month faculty position at the level of Instructor / Assistant Professor in the Master's in Biomedical Sciences Program (BMS).

NYITCOM in Old Westbury, NY is a fully accredited osteopathic medical school and one of six schools of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) with several campuses worldwide. NYITCOM matriculates approximately 300 medical students each year earning their doctorate in osteopathic medicine (DO). The school also hosts other graduate degree programs (MS, DO/PhD) in associated disciplines.

NYTech's College of Osteopathic Medicine sees an Instructor in Biomedical Sciences, located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

The faculty responsibilities are divided into teaching, service, and scholarly activities. All faculty are expected to participate effectively in all three activities. These responsibilities are further divided below:

    Teaching:
  • Actively participate in facilitating the learning of biomedical graduate students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and modification as part of the program's continuing quality improvement and assessment efforts.
  • Assist other BMS faculty members with course management and administration.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of basic scientific and clinical faculty to create and implement basic science content in an innovative and integrated biomedical curriculum that follows established best practices.
  • Participate in the developed and implemented student assessment and evaluation processes, providing feedback and remedial assistance to ensure that all students fulfill the established requirements.
  • Participate in, develop, and facilitate a variety of active learning events, including case-based learning.
  • Mentor and advise graduating biomedical students.
  1. Service:
  • Serve on COM committees, provide leadership, mentoring, and knowledge to students, and participate in professional organizations or groups as assigned by the Director of the Biomedical Sciences Program in Old Westbury.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student advising, mentoring, and tutoring.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and willingness to help the institution achieve its goal and vision through teaching, academic administration duties (course/program coordinator/director), and/or other duties as given by the course leadership.
  • Advance the COM's prominence by advancing its goal and vision, as well as your own personal career.

General Expectations:

  • Maintain a personal and professional development plan, including documentation of teaching, professional development activities and plans, service provided to college and communities, scholarly activity (primarily in medical education) to assure personal growth and continued competency in consultation with the director of biomedical sciences program.
  • Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance.
  • Demonstrate and role model an ongoing ability to work cooperatively and as a team with colleagues, supervisors, and support staff.


Qualifications

An earned Master's-level degree (M.S., M.A.) in educational, biomedical (e.g., microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics), or a related discipline (e.g., pharmacology) with documented teaching experience is preferred. Candidates with or on a path towards a terminal degree (e.g., Ed.D., Ph.D., DO, MD, Pharm. D.) and documented experience in medical education will also be considered. Evidence of ability or potential to conduct scholarly activity in medical education, ability to mentor students, and excellent interpersonal, team, and collaborative skills are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with documented teaching experience and a scholarly record emphasizing medical education.

In compliance with local legislation as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, the annual base salary range for this position is listed. New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.
