Position Overview:

The primary focus of this role will be to perform traffic engineering design for diverse FDOT projects, such as the Glades Road Diverging Diamond Interchange. We are working closely with FDOT in their "Vital Few Initiatives: Safety, Innovation and Mobility." This role will be focused on arterial traffic signal retiming efforts, TSM&O dashboards, TSM&O studies and execution. TSM&O encompasses arterial management, monitoring and surveillance; advanced transportation management systems (ATMS); traffic operations; traffic safety; and studies. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Access and assimilate transportation data such as Bluetooth travel time data, volume count data and traffic signal controller data
  • Ability to learn signal timing elements such as phasing, clearances and pedestrian intervals
  • Assist in further development of TSM&O Performance Measure Dashboard
  • Populate Performance Measure Dashboards on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis
  • Plotting of safety data along corridor maps or other formats
  • Analyzing pedestrian, bicycle, or transit data in context of vehicular flow and safety
  • Perform mobility and operational cost of calculations using transportation data
  • Ability to learn or use micro-simulation models appropriate to specific project needs, including Synchro-Sim Traffic, VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic
  • Ability to use or learn the usage of Roundabout analysis software, SIDRA
  • Ability to use or learn Tableau or Power BI business intelligence software
  • Understand signal phasing, timing data for reports, intersection evaluations and recommendations
  • Conduct traffic analysis for speed studies including statistical evaluations, identifying key roadways with excessive speeds and recommendations
  • Communicate results in power point presentations and in technical memo writing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required. Master's degree preferred.
  • EIT certification is required. PE licensure or PTOE certification preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in traffic engineering in a professional setting.
  • Experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to analyze complex traffic issues and alternates and prepare cogent recommendations.
  • Experience in the design of traffic control devices including signing, pavement markings, traffic signals and temporary traffic control devices.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and ADA regulations.
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of traffic modeling including Synchro/SimTraffic, CORSIM, and HCS preferred.
