Assists Director with daily operations of the Ambulatory Pharmacies and assumes operational responsibility in Director's absence. Executes professional responsibilities, according the standard of practice for the profession of pharmacy, controlling the use of medications and related products and devices dispensed from the Ambulatory Pharmacies. Performs clinical, distributional and administrative functions of a staff and lead pharmacists. Coordinates and manages services provided by the Ambulatory Pharmacies at West Virginia University Hospitals, including supervision of personnel and educational programs offered by the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy 2. Must possess current license to practice pharmacy in West Virginia or be license eligible. Licensure must be completed within 60 days. 3. West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area. EXPERIENCE: 1. Completion of a health-system pharmacy administration residency programOR; 2. Completion of a non-health-system pharmacy administration residency programAND1 year of experience as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy administratorOR; 3. Three years of pharmacy administrative experienceOR; 4. Five years pharmacist practice experience. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration, or Master in Public Health. 2. Develops and implements processes, through orientation, training, and education to ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, improved, and demonstrated throughout their employment. 2. Develops systems and provides feedback to the Director to monitor the effectiveness of services offered by the Ambulatory Pharmacies. 3. Develops and, with approval, implements programs, systems, and services to provide retail pharmacy services that meet or exceed customer standards. 4. Formulates and refines systems used in providing Pharmacy care to customers. 5. Directs the activities of staff and monitors performance, clarifies work expectations and promotes cooperation among staff. 6. Performs personnel functions such as interviewing, hiring and performance management of direct-report employees. 7. Ensures that policies and procedures related to drug distribution are followed. 8. Investigates and studies trends and developments in retail pharmacy practices; develops policies and procedures and operational manuals; introduces new products and procedures to staff within their assigned teams and responsibilities. 9. Assures the development of policies, procedures and other orientation and training materials to support clinical and operational services. 10. Identifies, seeks approval for and with approval implements new products, technology, and procedures to improve clinical and distribution operations. 11. Works with the Director to determine product standards and assure compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements. 12. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the Ambulatory Pharmacies; monitors budget and other financial indicators during the year. Assists in the development and implementation of plans to control costs and improve departmental operations. 13. Assists the Director of the Ambulatory Pharmacies to develop and maintain performance improvement indicators and programs to improve quality of service and optimize patient safety. 14. Works to develop, implement and effectively respond to performance improvement indicators of the Ambulatory Pharmacies services and promotes improvement in the quality of services provided. 15. Assures adequate and timely submission of data and reports for performance improvement activities. 16. Establishes systems to encourage effective communication and working relationships between pharmacy employees and other healthcare professionals. 17. Takes a proactive and innovative approach to problem identification and resolution. 18. Maintains professional knowledge and skills by active participation in continuing education activities. 19. Maintains professional society involvement (local, state and national). 20. Monitors compliance with assigned work schedules and consults with Director of modifications or discrepancies.Where necessary, resolves scheduling conflicts in order to provide adequate service coverage. 21. Monitors personnel performance; provides input to Director regarding performance evaluations and makes recommendations related to staff assignments. 22. Responds to patient/client inquiries, complaints, suggestions and reported real or potential medication errors and reports them to Director and completes/assists with completion of Medication Variance Report. 23. Maintains third-party prescription plan information.Resolves/facilitates the resolution of third-party claims problems/issues.
