Key Responsibilities:
- Automation & Controls Maintenance
- Install, troubleshoot, and optimize process equipment, automation controls, and instrumentation.
- Work with PLCs (Rockwell ControlLogix), HMIs, Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence), and motion control (VFDs, Servo drives).
- Ensure minimal downtime and scrap reduction by performing preventive maintenance and process improvements1.
- Troubleshoot control circuits, PID loops, and automation safety systems (NFPA 79/70E knowledge a plus).
- Startup & Commissioning
- Lead installation, debugging, and qualification of new automation systems.
- Conduct onsite acceptance testing at machine builder facilities.
- Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of inefficiencies and recommend data-driven solutions to improve reliability.
- Champion process improvements by analyzing equipment performance history and implementing preventative maintenance strategies1.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, and engineering) to enhance automation efficiency.
- Technical Documentation & Training
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for machine setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Provide hands-on training to technicians and operators on automation systems.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, machine modifications, and performance trends.
Required Qualifications:
- Education & Experience
- 5+ years of direct experience working with automation, instrumentation, and controls in a manufacturing environment.
- Associate's degree, Engineering Technician diploma, or equivalent work experience in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering.
- Experience in discrete component assembly automation, motion control, and industrial robotics.
- Technical Skills & Expertise
- PLC programming & troubleshooting - Rockwell ControlLogix, FactoryTalk View, B&R Automation Studio.
- Vision Systems - Cognex, Keyence setup and programming.
- Motion Control - VFDs, Servo drives (AB & SEW preferred).
- Machine Networking & Database Systems - SQL Server, Visual Basic (a plus).
- Automation Safety Standards - NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, machine safeguarding compliance.
- Hands-on electrical & mechanical troubleshooting - Extensive wiring, instrumentation, and system diagnostics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Electrical License (a plus).
- Experience with robotics, IT networks, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
