Job Description: Training Specialist II Summary This position includes providing on-site course support services at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in support of the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE)/Department of Operational Medicine (DoOM). Services include training support specialists to augment 6H-F35/300-F38 TCMC program personnel in the execution of standardized instruction and testing. The purpose of this course is to provide Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and operational medicine training for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Dentists, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Special Operations Medics, Paramedics, 68W20-40 Combat Medics, and other select medical personnel assigned to Roles of Care 1 and 2 prior to deployment to a combat theater. Work locations include Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis. Responsibilities: Provides assistance in the training of Soldiers in a wide variety of individual and team skills for TCMC courses. To include but not limited to the following
Manikin Management. Prepare, position, reset, and recover/store medical training manikins for training in outdoor High Threat extraction training stations, outdoor Care Under Fire (CUF)/ Tactical Field Care (TFC) lanes, and indoor Battalion Aid Station (BAS) scenarios Aid Station Management. Clean, restock, recycle, and reset medical supplies and equipment in battalion aid station (BAS) training lanes at both JBSA Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis training locations. Skill Station Management. Just-in-time reconfiguration of training classroom to prepare, stock, reset, maintain, and clean/recover/store medical skill station training aids, supplies and equipment for workshops in hemorrhage control, splinting, airway management, rapid sequence induction (RSI) and intubation, intraosseous access, thoracic trauma management, MASCAL, pediatric trauma, walking blood bank, and lateral canthotomy and cantholysis (LCC) skills. Medical sets/kits Assemblage and Distribution. Student M9 aid bags were emptied after each class and restocked for the next class. Medication kits were refilled and validated in the student bags, battalion aid stations, and on-medication and rapid sequence induction (RSI) skill stations. Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) are assembled for each training manikin. Warrior Aid and Litter Kits (WALK) and SKEDCO extraction devices: WALKs and SKEDCOs are distributed, reassembled and restocked and stored for the high-threat extraction lane and for each CUF/TFC lane iteration Lane Realism Enhancement. Position, prepare, operate, and recover audio speakers and stage fog machines during training events to replicate sights and sounds of combat to enhance training realism.
Other responsibilities may include
Adhere to all Animal Use Protocols and Veterinary protocols at all times. This includes maintaining currency on required briefings, Assist instructors with model wrangling, shaving, and verification of satisfactory anesthesia. Assist instructors in applying combat wound patterns to models during conduct of training. Maintain continuous access control (sentry duty) at Camp Bullis Training Site 8 to prevent unauthorized personnel from accessing the training site without clearance by the course OIC/NCOIC and attending veterinarian Identify and restock/resupply class 8 inventory at JBSA Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis. Review and provide input to course documents including student guides, facilitator guides, briefings, and other ancillary course support materials. Review/Input is specific to logistics, equipment, and material for course delivery. (i.e., student bag preparation, kits, and course-specific medical material requirements). Perform routine equipment maintenance, inventory, laboratory set up and tear down, clean up, and sanitation. Prepare and update monthly reports for training delivery supply and inventory tracking, re-supply identification, and schedules (i.e., warehouse pick up and equipment transport) per established course requirements. Services shall require a review of training materials and collaboration with Army relevant army experts, instructors, and offices as necessary on logistics and inventory/supply requirements following program instructional strategies. Transporting course equipment from storage to classroom or training site on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston only following AR 58-1.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma 3-4 years' experience. Former instructor or Training Specialist supporting the TCMC program preferred Required to lift and carry equipment and/or materials weighing up to 200 pounds as part of a 2-person team. On occasion, must carry this equipment up and down stairs and on uneven terrain in the normal functions of his/her job. Able to work with instructors in the classroom and/or outdoors and in inclement weather. Able to stand for long periods of time while teaching in a field or classroom environment. May require standing for an 8-hour shift or longer. Capable of wearing personal protective equipment as needed during inclement weather and MEDCoE/Health Protection Condition level requirements.
