Associate or Full Professor

The University of New Mexico School
of Engineering (SOE) has an opening for a Director of Integrative Engineering
at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This position is a full-time, 9-month,
faculty position. The desired start date is August 2025.

The faculty member will hold
tenure in one of SOE's six departments and develop and grow a bachelor's
program in Integrative Engineering (pending state approval) as well as an
integrative approach to our First-Year Engineering academic curriculum, working
closely with all departments and our Engineering Student Success Center. The Integrative
Engineering bachelor's program is envisioned as a flexible, convergent,
transdisciplinary degree rooted in engineering, centered around design, and
reaching toward other disciplines that pique students' interest, from management
to the arts and much more. We have already developed and piloted a
transdisciplinary, project-based, first-year engineering course, which we
intend to expand, providing a common, integrative first-year experience that
engages, prepares, and retains students within the School of Engineering.
Additional course offerings for first-year students may include those focused
on engineering applications of mathematics; programming, data, and AI; and
design challenges in a variety of disciplines that address the great problems
of our day, from climate and the energy transition to engineering in world
health.
The position's faculty rank
and salary are negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will
balance teaching, research, and service and direct the Integrative Engineering
bachelor's program, including expanding the integrative engineering offerings and
reducing inequities in enrollment. This colleague will work in close partnership
with University College, the Engineering Student Success Center, SOE
leadership, and all SOE departments. Research agenda should include engineering
education research related to equitable student success, rooted in frameworks
that promote justice, equity, accessibility, diversity, and inclusion (JEADI).

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD in engineering, engineering education, or a related field
• Experience commensurate with that of a tenured professor at the Associate or Full rank in any of the School's six departments (Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil, construction, & Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Nuclear Engineering)

Preferred Qualifications:

• * Demonstrated commitment to engineering education research or closely related field, including STEM education research, student success, and innovative curriculum pathways.

  * Demonstrated excellence in scholarly teaching and commitment to teaching an integrative bachelor's engineering program including a common first-year course and design courses.

  * Leadership and demonstrated success in program development aligned with School and University strategic plans, and a record of innovation in transdisciplinary, integrative, or sociotechnical engineering education, promoting student success and innovative curriculum pathways

  * Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including working with staff and faculty across roles and backgrounds.

• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
