In this key leadership role, you will have 4 core areas of accountability for Optum Care:
- Setting and aligning the national EMR and Practice Management (PM) technical platform strategy across Optum Care partnering with each of our regional CIOs to build a shared vision and alignment. Working with the business to define a business strategy and building a platform strategy to support the business objective to reduce our current footprint of EMR and PM vendors and align on strategic partner(s). Drive interoperability and improvement of coordination of care between all of the services Optum offers via primary and specialty care along with the acute care settings. Platform consolidation to support operations and clinical alignment, streamline services offered to patients/providers, drive better clinical outcomes, improve patient and provider satisfaction, and lower our overall technology cost structure.
- Vendor management: Developing relationships with our key vendor partners to enable our strategy for technical platform consolidation, align their technical product development roadmaps to meet our needs, optimize their products to improve provider efficiency, drive accountability for them to deliver with excellence, contract management and negotiation, create opportunity with each success the vendor has to expand the relationship.
- Together with the business manage an Optum Health Center of Excellence (CoE) for implementation and support services for all approved national programs. Provide platforms that can scale as we grow and continue to be served at the lower cost model with the highest degree of provider and patient satisfaction.
- Seamlessly integrate our internal development initiatives, while creating value-added benefits to providers and our patients. This includes integration across our EMR vendors with our internally developed patient portal, provider portal, medical management platform, clinical decision support, referral utilities, and risk adjustment platforms.

- Maintain integrity of the Epic National build and other CoE programs that get established for our employed physician groups.
- Establish EMR / PM vision, strategy and approach for our contracted and affliliated physician groups that we do business with and support as well including integration and interoperability efforts with our internal value-based care technology eco-system

- Demonstrated in depth knowledge of the US healthcare system
- 10+ years combined experience leading strategy, implementations, and support of clinical applications with proven depth in EMR and Practice Management (PM) systems
- Previous experience with all clinical applications that EMR and PM integrate with to support the provider and patient experience
- Deeply understands the complete clinical stack and how that integrates within the EMR/PM landscape
- Understands the technology implications with transitioning from Fee for Service to Value Based Care
- Experience migrating from Fee For Service to Value Based Care and EMR and Practice Management systems
- Understanding of clinic operations and physician/clinician workflows
- 20+ years progressive leadership experience building and leading large teams and planning and executing strategy for large and complex technical initiatives/programs across multiple businesses/locations with numerous and diverse stakeholders
- Experience building and leading large global multi-functional teams
- Experience successfully leading and delivering positive outcomes through large, complex programs with numerous and diverse stakeholders
- Willingness & ability to travel 50% of the time on a sustained basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful track record of Epic implementations
- History of working with multiple EMR products
*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. The salary range for this role is $191,800 to $364,800 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
