The SFPFV program was launched following a one-year Human Centered Design process. The process focused on exploring system-level gaps and opportunities around care and support for SF pregnant residents facing racial and/or socio-economic inequities, and uncovered three core needs to improve outcomes:
o Reduce barriers to care by providing a one-stop-shop- improving access to the many programs that already exist within the city o Build trust between communities and institutions, by showing up differently: being coordinated, collaborative, responsive, accountable and relationship focused o Investing in comprehensive wellness of the individual, family and community- recognizing that this requires more than just medical care and beyond just the pregnant person SFPFV was established to meet these needs, by providing a monthly, community-based, "one-shop-shop" event that provides access to cross-sector services/offerings (city/public health, CBOs and healthcare systems/providers). in an environment designed to feel uplifting, celebratory, dignified and to promote relationship building. Our pilot, the "SF Family & Pregnancy Pop-Up Village" event series, ran from July 2021- June 2024. During this time period the number of participating Health & Wellness organizations had grown from 7 to 17, the program gained financial support from several City departments (Department of Early Childhood, Department of Public Health MCAH division, and Zuckerberg SF General Hospital) and visitor and participating organizations' experience showed high satisfaction with the program. Building from its successes and learnings, SFPFV is now designing its "2.0" event series and will be re-launching full scale events in Spring 2025.
