Job Summary

The New Nurse Residency Training Program (NNRTP) is designed for newly graduated RNs who have graduated on or after October 2023 with an Associate's Degree or higher in Nursing.

This is the only posting for the program and covers all of the positions for the participating departments listed below. Applicants are able to select their top two unit preferences. All applicants who meet the requirements and submit complete applications will be routed to the hiring teams for review.

The program start date is April 7th, 2025. Please note, this is a full time program and we do not offer scheduling accommodations for the first ten weeks of the program.

Summary of job responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care
  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams
  • Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required
  • Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision
  • Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required
Other Important Information
  • Candidates selected for the NNRTP will be classified as a Clinical Nurse I and must have less than six months of paid RN employment experience at the time of the program start date.
  • Candidates must have graduated no earlier than October 2023 (18 months before the program state date).
  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in nursing by March 7th, 2025. Students in MEPN programs must have completed their full program and have degree conferred.
  • Must have an active CA RN license by March 7th, 2025.
  • If selected for the program, you will be expected to commit to at least two years of full-time employment on the hiring unit after the completion of training.
  • Application deadline is January 17th, 2025 8:59 PM PDT.
  • Program starts with orientation on Monday, April 7th, 2025.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

All CNI (9140) hires will start at an hourly rate of $84.79.

Required Qualifications


  • Less than six (6) months of paid RN experience by April 2025
  • Graduated on/after October 2023 (no more than 18 months prior to program start date)
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California by March 7th, 2025 (not required at time of application)
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American heart Association ACLS/PALS/NRP certification within six months of program start date (for designated units)
  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in nursing by March 7th, 2025. Students in MEPN programs must have completed their full program and have degree conferred.
  • Willing to commit to at least two years of full-time employment on the hiring unit after the completion of training
