HVAC Field Technician

The University of North Carolina System
Jan 10, 2025

About the Opportunity
The HVAC Field Technician position requires a
technician who can take ownership of over 100 systems statewide, implementing a
maintenance schedule and responding to emergency repairs all over the state.
The ability to travel statewide, occasionally on short notice, is necessary. The primary purpose of the HVAC Field Technician is to maintain, repair and install the HVAC
systems and their associated control systems that provide cooling for
approximately 50 broadcast television transmission sites. The transmission
sites are located all over North Carolina, some in easily accessible areas and
others in remote locations and mountaintops. This position is responsible for
scheduling and performing routine maintenance and repairs of HVAC systems that
range from 1 ton mini-split systems to 25-ton package units. This position is
also responsible for unplanned emergency repairs whenever the need arises. This
includes replacement/installation of mini-split systems. Other field staff will
be available for assistance as necessary. This position will serve as the
working supervisor in the construction, modification, or repairs completed by
independent contractors. This position is designated as an Essential position
requiring employee to be at work during severe weather and significant events.

UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina,
within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station. This HVAC
Field Technician services systems across the state of NC and can be based out
of the central part of the state; however, the technician must be available for
statewide responses, as necessary.
