Job Summary

Department: Radiation Oncology

This role is approximately 2 months in duration

The Hospital Blank Assistant III plays a vital role in supporting Radiation Oncology's clinical team in delivering patient care. Working under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse and in collaboration with clinical staff, this position is responsible for assisting with medical procedures, patient care, and reception duties. The role requires expertise in sterile techniques, patient management, and handling complex medical procedures like OR-type HDR procedures and Gamma knife treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Support:

  • Assist nurses and providers with complex procedures, ensuring sterile techniques are followed.
  • Perform routine clinical tasks: recording vital signs, updating medication lists, and preparing patients for exams.
  • Support sterile processing, including maintaining logs and handling equipment.
  • Transport patients, monitor clinic flow, and assist with front desk duties.
  • Schedule appointments, obtain authorizations, and perform administrative tasks as needed.

Communication:

  • Maintain clear communication with the medical team, notifying providers of patient delays.
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHR) for documentation and scheduling.
  • Ensure professional and courteous interactions with patients and staff, adhering to UCSF's PRIDE values.

Operations Maintenance:

  • Ensure exam rooms and medical equipment are properly stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Follow infection control procedures and assist in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Provide coverage at the reception desk as needed, handling patient scheduling and authorizations.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program.
  • Recent MA experience within the last year.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications


  • Degree from accredited medical assisting school.
  • Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, medical assisting, or patient financial services strongly preferred.
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred.
