DevOps/Cloud Lead Engineer

Introduction

As aDevOps/Cloud Lead Engineer, you will collaborate with our clients to help design, implement, maintain, and test various technical solutions using the latest technologies. You will also be responsible for creating and enhancing Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines and multiple kinds of automation processes (build management, automated deployments, automated testing, configuration management, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Infrastructure Leadership: Lead the team of cross-functional IT personnel in establishing the agency's cloud infrastructure in Azure.

  • Infrastructure Design: Design and deploy scalable, highly available, and secure cloud infrastructure that supports various applications and workloads.

  • Automation: Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to automate the provisioning of Azure resources using Terraform.

  • Networking Solutions: Design and implement enterprise-scale cloud network solutions, including virtual networks, subnets, security groups, VPNs, VNet peering, and ExpressRoute.

  • Identity and Access Management: Implement secure identity and access management solutions using Azure AD, Role-based access control, and multi-factor authentication to ensure a Zero-Trust architecture across subscriptions, resource groups, and workloads.

  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Design and implement solutions for high availability and disaster recovery utilizing Azure Availability Sets, Availability Zones, and Azure Site Recovery.

  • Proactive Optimization: Implement measures to monitor, analyze, and optimize the cloud environment, ensuring high availability and optimal resource utilization.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Security, Infrastructure, Enterprise Architecture, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration of applications and services across the organization.

  • CI/CD Management: Responsible for management and development of continuous integration and deployment solutions for production applications.

  • Migration to Cloud: Spearhead the creation of new technology infrastructures and lead the team to survey existing non-cloud workloads, developing cloud-native solutions to rehome them to the agency's Azure platforms.

  • Deployment Strategies: Create software deployment strategies that enable DevOps engineers to successfully deploy sites/software in any environment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 6 years designing and implementing highly available architecture, Azure Identities and Governance, Storage and Compute resources, Virtual Network configuration, hybrid connectivity solutions, Azure policy, and proactive monitoring.

    • Minimum of 6 years developing and deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) leveraging Terraform through Visual Studio (or other IDEs), Azure Cloudshell, or automated CI/CD pipelines.

    • Minimum of 6 years as a DevOps Engineer with a strong focus on Azure technologies and a deep understanding of government, commercial, and public cloud offerings and limitations.

    • Hands-on experience evaluating and migrating on-prem workloads and translating to cloud-native solutions (e.g., IAM, VMs, AKS, App Service, Vault).

    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python.

    • Hands-on experience developing and refining CI/CD approaches through Azure DevOps or combining cloud-agnostic equivalents like GitLab, Jenkins, and Artifactory.

    • Deep knowledge of containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and/or Azure Managed Kubernetes Service (AKS).

    • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.

  • Certifications:

    • Azure Certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert).

  • Skills:

    • Demonstrated experience developing IaC with Terraform and ARM templates.

    • Knowledge of Azure user service offerings including Autopilot/Intune, SharePoint, Exchange, O365/M365, OneDrive, and Azure Active Directory (AD).

    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively present strategies and solutions and facilitate communication and collaboration with business stakeholders, ACIOs, and customer.

This role is ideal for an experienced DevOps/Cloud Engineer ready to lead efforts in establishing cutting-edge Azure cloud infrastructure while mentoring a team of cross-functional IT professionals.
