The Director - Interventional Services plans, organizes, manages, and directs the day-to-day operation of a variety of cardiac and Interventional Radiology procedures performed electively or emergently in acute or non-acute settings to diagnose and treat disease, including laboratories and rooms for specialized cardiac testing and interventional procedures. The Director is responsible for the administrative and clinical coordination of the Cardiac Cath/EP/IR Lab, providing leadership to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the department with regard to patient care management, human resource management, fiscal management, equipment maintenance and procurement, quality of tests and procedures, quality assurance/quality and performance improvement initiatives, adherence to applicable hospital, Joint Commission accreditation requirements, and Federal and State regulatory standards. He/she builds strong and collaborative relationships with physicians, staff and hospital colleagues, utilizing P-CARES standards.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Administers and coordinates technical activities involved in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of Lab equipment.

  • Compiles, analyzes and reports data to include, but not limited to, patient volume, staffing, operational expenses, revenues and supply inventory; develop recommendations and conclusions as appropriate. Determines department priorities by evaluating the needs of target populations and assessing the availability of human, fiscal and equipment resources in order to implement policy effectively.

  • Directs all activities of the department by determining policy, procedures, program priorities and the utilization of resources in order to carry out the goals and objectives and the priorities of the department, ensuring safe, high quality, and cost efficient patient care.

  • Directs staff in the clinical application of the Lab through education and role modeling as evidenced by documentation and observation.

  • Directs the preparation and submission of the annual operating and capital budget requests for the department by determining priorities among requests from reporting staff and by explaining the need for additional resources to higher-level officials in order to obtain the resources necessary to implement programs. Monitors on-going revenue and expenses for assigned services. Submits financial reports as required. Works collaboratively with other members of the management team in providing cost-effective and efficient operations.

  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and standards, licensure, accreditation and regulatory standards. Evaluates and initiates corrective action regarding operational compliance with licensure, accreditation and regulatory standards.

  • Ensures the supervision of timely and competent provision of patient intake and assessments, patient care coordination, clinical monitoring services, 24-hour on-call, fulfillment of all required documentation activities; assessing and providing equipment and supplies to patients, and any other functions necessary to provide patient care.

  • Integrates appropriate - approved new cardiac/IR equipment and trends into practice.

  • Oversees and participates in the interview, selection, recruitment, hiring, and training of employees and directs effort at maintaining staff and minimizing staff turnover; reviews and approves or disapproves recommendations from subordinate managers on personnel actions; evaluates subordinates' performance; hears and resolves employee grievances; determines the need for and initiates disciplinary action; and plans for staffing needs on a long-term and short-term basis, adjusting these appropriately to maintain adequate and competent staffing for the department to provide safe, effective patient care in a cost efficient manner. Oversees the design and implementation of Quality Improvement program, analyzing results to improve both quality and service training initiatives; monitors quality of services provided; participates in continuous quality improvement and operations improvement activities.

  • Works collaboratively with physicians and staff to set and meet objectives to enhance service patient care and operations between facilities, coordinating care intra- and inter-departmentally.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)

Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

License/Certification: California Registered Nurse (CA - RN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)
License/Certification: Specialty Certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Certified Nurse Manager from AONE (CENML) or Certified in Executive Nursing Practice from AONE (CENP) within one year of hire

  • Knowledge of current theories, principles, practices, standards, emerging technologies, techniques and approaches in the nursing profession, and the health care system, and the responsibility and accountability for the outcome of practice.

  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and departmental standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of patient care applicable to the area of assignment.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management essential to the practice of nursing in the larger context of health care.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and current trends in health care and hospital system organization and administration sufficient to provide clinical management, leadership, coordination, and operational direction for assigned areas of responsibility.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $177,465.60 to $242,663.20
