The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Career Management Center (CMC), the Assistant Dean, Strategic Partnerships leads the strategic development and management of relationships with employers, faculty, and alumni to enhance hiring opportunities for Columbia Business School (CBS) students. The role collaborates across internal and external stakeholders, including Development & Alumni Relations (DAR), faculty, and Centers & Programs to execute a school-wide employer engagement strategy. The strategy ensures alignment with career education initiatives and supports both domestic and global student hiring outcomes.

As a key member of the CMC leadership team, the Assistant Dean provides strategic direction to a team of professionals and plays a critical role in advancing CBS's vision. Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy




  • Partners with Associate Dean to develop and execute a school-wide corporate engagement strategy.



  • Provides strategic leadership for a team of eight professional staff, ensuring alignment with CMC vision and goals.



  • Partners with the Executive Director of Employer Relations to establish employer engagement plans, recruitment strategies, timelines, and policies. Ensures school partners are updated and aligned through ongoing communication efforts.



  • Serves as a member of the CMC leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.




Relationship Management and Business Development




  • Acts as the primary liaison between CMC and DAR, Centers & Programs, and other CBS stakeholders to align employer and alumni development efforts with CBS priorities. Partners with internal and external stakeholders including and not limited to, public, private and nonprofit hiring organizations, Dean's Office, CMC Associate Dean and Executive Directors, Faculty, Office of Student Affairs, Admissions, Marketing and Communications, Operations, and student leadership.



  • Provides consultation to employers to maximize recruiting efforts and foster faculty partnerships to strengthen employer engagement.



  • Oversees efforts to develop, maintain, and further relationships with employers and alumni in sectors of interest to the students and alumni, and in alignment with the School's vision for the future of business.



  • Strategically targets employers new to CBS as they build their talent pipelines via job postings, campus/club events, student trips, and other activities. Actively maintains recruiting partnerships by providing high-level consultation to employers seeking to maximize recruiting efforts. Leads faculty partnerships



  • Benchmarks employer and alumni engagement strategies with peer institutions to ensure best practices and innovation.




Data Management




  • Collaborates with the Executive Director of Operations to determine employment and market data needs. Utilizes data collected to develop targeted employer and alumni engagement strategy. Conducts annual qualitative research and presents employment trends and market forecasts to academic departments, the Dean's Office, and CBS leadership.



  • Leverages employment data to inform curriculum development and strategic planning.



  • Along with Associate Dean, CMC, regularly provides employment statistics and hiring market forecasts to the Dean's Office, Faculty and Columbia Business School Board. Presents employment trends to academic departments to inform curriculum development.




Communication




  • In collaboration with Associate Dean, CMC, and the School's Marketing and Communications team, develops content for employer-facing channels, including website, social media, newsletters and the School's annual Employment Report.



  • Represents the CMC at select professional meetings, recruiter meetings, media/press interactions, and with peer schools as needed.



  • Acts on behalf of Associate Dean, CMC, when appropriate and necessary.




Other Responsibilities

Performs additional duties as assigned or required to support the mission of the CMC.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree required. 7-9 years of experience required, preferably with management and business experience.

  • 7+ years professional experience in either a corporate or academic setting.



  • Experience leading high performing teams



  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to excel in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.



  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with experience presenting to diverse audiences.



  • Proven leadership, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing priorities and collaborate effectively.



  • Deep understanding of MBA roles and industries, along with the needs of a diverse MBA student body.



  • Advanced proficiency with tools such as MS Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems.



  • Strong data analytics capabilities and the ability to use data for decision-making.



  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings or late evenings during peak periods, and travel as required.




Preferred Qualifications




  • MBA or other Master's degree and experience in higher education, development, technology, financial services, and/or consulting sectors.



  • Familiarity with MBA recruiting processes and nuances.
