Physician Advisor

• Conducts clinical reviews at the request of case managers and provides expert opinion on appropriate level of care orders.
• Participates in scheduled educational sessions to maintain current knowledge based on healthcare reimbursement issues with an emphasis on federal, state, and payer regulatory and contract requirements.
• Presents to medical staff, case managers, and administration as warranted.
• Acts as a liaison between medical staff and case management to facilitate accurate and complete documentation for capture of severity and acuity.
• Serves as member of Length of Stay, Complex Care or other leadership committees as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited school required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Experience

Three years of inpatient based clinical experience is required.

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Board Certified or Board Eligible in area of specialty. Licensed to practice in the state of South Carolina.

Special Training

Superb written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present clinically credible information to small and large groups. In-depth knowledge of Level of Care Criteria, CMS regulations and third-party payer contracts. Ability to apply knowledge to a broad range of patients and medical specialties. Agility within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
