Job Summary

Work under the direction of the Anesthesia Service Chief and Hospital Administrator and as a member of a team consisting of the other veterinarians with defined service responsibilities. Independently provide instruction and direct supervision to DVM students, residents and animal health technicians delivering anesthesia care to small and large animals in the VMTH. Participate in the instruction of the DVM anesthesia laboratory course (VET 431). Participate to after-hours coverage for anesthesia on a rotational basis, including primary anesthesia care responsibility.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Licensed DVM in the state of California.
  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of a residency accredited by the American College of Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) and eligible for board certification.
  • Managing anesthesia and analgesia of a wide range of animal species for both elective and emergency cases.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.Skills to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching, particularly clinical instruction.
  • Computer skills to access and utilize VMACS.

Department Overview

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.
