Job Description

MU TITLE: Extension Specialist

LOCATION: Missouri Training Institute, 109 Whitten Hall, University of Missouri

The Missouri Training Institute (MTI) provides training and consulting services to improve business performance and organizational effectiveness for private, public and not-for-profit organizations. For more information about MTI, visit http://mti.missouri.edu/. This is a full-time academic position that combines business training expertise with technological proficiency. The ideal candidate will spend their time designing and delivering business training programs, and supporting, and improving the Institute's technological infrastructure, multimedia content, and digital outreach. The role offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for professional growth. Competitive salary and benefits are provided, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Travel within Missouri, and occasionally beyond, is required.

Extension Specialist positions are a 12-month appointment, not on a promotion track.

This position will hold a working title of Business Trainer & Consultant.

As an Extension Educational Center Specialist, your workload distribution at appointment will be 90% Extension Teaching and 10% Traditional Service.

This appointment is renewable annually at the discretion of the University and workload distribution may change at the discretion of Extension leadership. Circumstances affecting continued employment include, but are not limited to, work performance, fund availability, and educational priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Training Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver customized business training programs: Research, write, and deliver in-person and virtual training sessions on topics such as communication, management, leadership, supervision, teamwork, and other business-related subjects for a diverse range of businesses, organizations and employees.
  • Public speaking and facilitation: Lead workshops and seminars, applying adult learning best practices to ensure engaging and effective training.
  • Curriculum development: Collaborate with the faculty team to develop or adapt training materials to meet specific client needs.
  • Incorporate multimedia into training: Use e-learning tools, such as Zoom, interactive presentations, and multimedia content, to create a dynamic learning environment.
  • Build and sustain relationships: Work closely with business clients to identify training needs and customize content, accordingly, ensuring relevance and impact.

Technology Responsibilities

  • Multimedia content creation: Create, edit, and produce multimedia materials, including instructional videos, podcasts, graphics, and presentations, to support business training and digital marketing efforts. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canvas, or similar tools.
  • Digital learning platforms: Maintain and enhance MTI's Canvas LMS courses, ensuring a smooth user experience for learners in both virtual and hybrid settings.
  • Technology integration: Recommend and implement technological tools that improve MTI's educational programming and operations.
  • Social media and digital marketing: Collaborate with the team to design and manage content for MTI's digital platforms, including social media, email campaigns, and MTI's website. Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube is desirable.
  • Technology training: Provide support and training for other MTI team members to enhance their use of technology in the development and delivery of training programs, ensuring best practices are followed in both in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Troubleshoot and innovate: Stay current on emerging technologies and troubleshoot any technical issues that arise during virtual trainings or in the production of multimedia content.

  • Bring a disciplined approach to planning, implementing, and managing various training and technology projects.

Supervision is received from the Director of the Missouri Training Institute.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in business, human resources, education, instructional technology, curriculum design, or a related field.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Years of experience in business training, adult education, or related roles.
  • Strong public speaking, facilitation, and instructional design skills.
  • Proficiency in digital learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, Canvas), multimedia content creation (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Microsoft 365), and social media/digital marketing strategies.
  • Ability to travel within Missouri and occasionally beyond, and work flexible hours as needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of audio and video editing software (e.g. Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro), podcast creation or webinar production.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the applicant.
