Coordinator - Literacy Coaching

Coordinates the strategic coaching model focused on literacy, including but not limited to providing project management of the district's literacy coaching strategy, supporting and developing school-based literacy coaches, CLN literacy leads, and coordinating work with relevant vendor/partner organizations to provide coaching and professional development content to teachers, school leaders, district leaders, and literacy coaches. This position supports K-8 schools in the implementation and coordination of the literacy coaching model.


Essential Functions



  • Supports the Director of Literacy. with long- and short-term planning and project management associated with the implementation of the district's literacy coaching strategy.
  • Coordinates the development and delivery of ongoing professional development to literacy coaches, CLN leads, district leaders, school leaders, and school level coaches to support the deepening of literacy skill acquisition, teacher content knowledge and pedagogy.
  • Coordinates the work of vendors/partners who provide coaching and professional development aligned to City Schools literacy goals and coaching strategy needs.
  • Uses qualitative and quantitative data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers, schools, and literacy coaches at the district and school-level.
  • Develops and provides appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders in support of the district literacy coach strategy.
  • Supports the central procurement of high quality instructional materials in literacy and in support of literacy coaching and goals
  • Collaborates with multiple offices across the organization to ensure cohesive implementation of the strategy for literacy coaching in support of district literacy goals.
  • Supports a coherent model for district and school-based instructional support to include observation and feedback systems for teachers to execute rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive literacy lessons.
  • Supports the design and implementation of literacy unit and lesson internalization systems to develop teachers' effective preparation and delivery of curriculum lessons.
  • Provides input on literacy CLN lead evaluations.
  • Works in partnership with a highly-motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
  • Keeps the Director of Literacy abreast of all matters related to literacy.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Master's degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement.
  • Three years teaching experience in English/language arts in K-8 settings.
  • Three years' experience developing and delivering professional development to teachers.
  • Experience in coaching teachers.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate positively to colleagues, children, and families; and make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures.
  • Strong organization and strategic planning skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience managing large scale projects.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in adult learning and facilitation
  • Knowledge of current research in literacy best practices.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of individuals.
  • A commitment to educational equity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of multiple computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, PD Tracking and reporting software, databases, and Online Professional Learning software.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point.
