About Us:

As a leading tobacco facility, we are seeking an EHS Associate to join our team and play a crucial role in the safety of a newly established factory under the startup environment.

What This Position Is About:

Work with EHS processes, projects, and ways of working to ensure compliance with Company Standards and EHS Legal Requirements. Assist in implementing the JTI EHS systems to track critical metrics and establish local processes for reporting those metrics at a local and global level. The incumbent will ensure good and efficient cooperation between other departments motivating and growing their safety awareness bringing the JTI Safety culture to the new working environment. Carry out risk assessment, release of risk activities, and management of waste in areas.

Areas of Responsibilities:



  • Identify hazards, propose control measures and actions to eliminate or reduce occupational risks in conjunction with areas, aiming to prevent incidents and improve working conditions, carry out safety inspections in departments through periodic visits and checking compliance with policies and JTI procedures, seeking to encourage safe behaviors and strengthen the safety culture.
  • Identify and supervise EHS programs and controls to mitigate environmental impacts and health & safety risks associated with the operations of the business
  • Provides support to ensure that appropriate EHS systems and resources are in place. This includes hazard recognition, evaluation, and control.
  • Support at designs, develops, and implements procedures, programs, processes, and systems that ensure compliance with EHS Global Standards
  • Support Annual Strategic Plan (ASP) development by determining and reviewing EHS critical metrics to ensure consistency with the company's overall objectives and goals
  • Provide support for EHS management systems (e.g., EHS information/data management systems, streamline EHS tasks, records management) to achieve compliance with EHS standards
  • Drives the planning and execution of tactical and strategic initiatives in order to eliminate hazards and reduce or eliminate the associated risks. This includes leading in investigations of all serious EHS incidents, identify and ensure implementation of mitigation measures to avoid repeat.

  • Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions, understand environment, health and safety aspects of their work and learn about potential hazards, participate in EHS trainings and receive appropriate EHS knowledge and required qualifications and report incidents and near misses to their supervisor, report identified unsafe conditions and behaviors to their supervisor as prescribed in the EHS Roles and Responsibilities Matrix.

    Ensure the effective implementation and operation of the IMS within their areas of responsibility and be accountable for the Quality, Environment, Energy and Health and Safety outcomes of their departments. Ensure the effective implementation and operation of the IMS within their areas of responsibility in line with the IMS Policy and prescribed IMS roles and responsibilities.





Who Are We Looking For - Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent program in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or other related discipline
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in EHS area;
  • Effective training and presentation skills: ability to transfer knowledge and train local employees, clear and effective communication;
  • Project management skills: strong project management capabilities to navigate a start-up environment with tight deadlines, ensuring timely completion of tasks;
  • Knowledge of methods of solving problems in teams, root cause analysis;
  • Knowledge of USA legal requirements, statistical process control, and ISO standards;
  • Fluency in English (Oral and written)
  • Spanish is a plus.
