Job Description

This position combines good project management and construction management background with experience leading team(s) through project(s) execution. Plans, facilitates, and oversees the detailed planning and execution of capital projects. Understands and improves manufacturing processes and integrates them into the key capital projects assigned to optimize the intended savings of these projects.

    Project / Construction Management.
  • Leads project planning, and oversees key projects assigned.
  • Develops a comprehensive and detailed schedule timeline consistent with the scope, budget, and target completion date.
  • Coordinates with Project Manager, and associated design consultants, construction contractors, and vendors related to assigned projects.
  • Assumes leadership and oversight over execution stage of assigned projects with support from engineers, project's manager, procurement lead, and other key project team members.
  • Assumes a leadership role in working with staff to identify and mitigate construction impacts and operational issues, and ensure compliance with all safety procedures and policies.
  • Actively works with contractors on BIW's behalf in a construction manager role to facilitate execution of improvement projects.


Required/Preferred Education/Training

Senior Project & Construction Management Supervisor:

  • 5-9 years related work experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Industrial Engineering, and other relevant technical field or equivalent work experience required.
  • An understanding of the principles and practices of managing large integrated projects.
  • An understanding of the basic principles of design and construction of capital projects.
  • Competent with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access and other web-based applications.

Principal Project & Construction Management Supervisor:

  • 10 + years related work experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Industrial Engineering, and other relevant technical field or equivalent work experience required.
  • An understanding of the principles and practices of managing large integrated projects.
  • An understanding of the basic principles of design and construction of capital projects.
  • Competent with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access and other web-based applications.


Required/Preferred Experience

Required:

  • Construction Project Manager/Production Manager experience with leading teams while managing construction projects.
  • An understanding of the principles and practices of managing large integrated projects, working with the customer and coordinating with key stakeholders during the project performance.
  • Experience identifying material requirements from designs and estimating manhour and material costs.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Competent with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, or Access and other web-based applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the management of Industrial Facility improvement projects and/or implementing process improvements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with installing and trouble-shooting mechanical controls / PLC experience preferred.
  • Project Management Professional Certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Project.
  • Trained in Lean Six Sigma methods and tool including Lean facility layout principles.

Competencies:

  • Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
  • Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information to internal and external customers.
