The University of Texas at Austin has set a bold goal: to become the world's highest-impact public research university. We are seeking an ambitious, visionary leader to join our team as Associate Vice President (AVP) for Campus Services, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer (SVP/COO).

Purpose

The AVP for Campus Services will lead and motivate a large, multifaceted portfolio and workforce that includes: Document Solutions (mail services, printing), Child Development Center, Commons Event Services (conference center, cafe, event software services), Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center and Longhorn Aquatics, Parking and Transportation Services, Records and Information Management Services, and Travel Management Services.

Responsibilities
  • Create and sustain a culture of curiosity, trust, and creativity, and drive positive change.
  • Think and operate holistically and systematically, establish and implement a clear vision and strategic direction for the unit, and catalyze new approaches to achieve excellence across the university.
  • Serve as an agile, articulate thought leader and a strategic thought partner to the SVP/COO.
  • Represent the SVP/COO internally and externally with key stakeholders and proactively and effectively communicate.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, business administration or applicable field.
  • Track Record of Success: The ideal candidate will have a strong demonstrated history of planning, budgeting, managing, and executing projects within a large and complex institution or organization.
  • Project Planning and Management: Extensive professional experience exceeding 20 years in successfully managing large-scale infrastructure projects. This experience should be verifiable and include a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget while ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Timely Decision-Making: The candidate should possess the capability to make prompt and well-informed decisions, using sound judgment. They should also understand the importance of involving relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process, ensuring a comprehensive and approach.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in evaluating the benefits, costs, and risks associated with complex proposals is crucial. The candidate should possess excellent analytical abilities and be adept at communicating project status updates to senior-level management effectively.
  • Adaptability and Reprioritization: The ideal candidate should be proficient in explaining and justifying deviations from the original project plan. They should be skilled in utilizing metrics, tools, and techniques to integrate technical and schedule performance, thereby enabling informed decision-making and the ability to reprioritize project tasks when necessary.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, exemplified by the ability to motivate and guide multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle. This person's ethos will be synonymous with authenticity, humility, and an aspiration to change the world.
  • Communications and Engagement: Exceptional communication and presentation abilities, enabling the candidate to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, clients, contractors, and community members. This includes the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner to gain support and build consensus.

Employment Eligibility:

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
