Job Title: Operational Service Associate

Location: Danville, VA

Role: Permanent

Operational Service Associate

What This Position Is About

The purpose of the role is to ensure the tobacco leaf bales and packed product is being moved and processed according to JTI requirements within specific areas such as blending, threshing, packing, print room, warehousing, shipping, or receiving. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and safety compliance of the truck they operate. The overall objective for factory floor jobs is to maximize leaf yield and achieve zero non-conformity products (NCP).

Areas of Responsibility




  • Forklift Operations:


Drive industrial truck equipped to lift, stack, or move products, equipment, or materials in warehouse, storage yard, or factory. Unload and stack material in appropriate locations by raising and lowering lifting device. Load tractor trailers with outgoing products. Tasks may involve loading or unloading materials from pallets, skids, or other lifting devices. The assigned activities can be performed in the leaf processing, shipping, receiving areas or off site warehouses.



  • Material Movement Control:


Weigh materials or products and record weight on tags, labels, or production schedules. Perform Data Clerk activities by by supervisor's request. Report any inconsistencies found (i.e. weight differences, wrong or missing tag, etc.).



  • Forklift Truck Check:


Before starting daily operations, complete the checklist and make sure the truck is in proper condition to operate. If there are any failed items on the check list, report to the Facilities Maintenance team immediately. Monitor, inspect and document industrial lift truck usage and necessary maintenance repairs on a regular basis. Report any incidents happened during operation.



  • Housekeeping & Safety:


Make sure the area of responsibility, including the machine and assigned area, are kept to JTI housekeeping / cleaning guidelines. Keep area organized in accordance with 5S3R standards. Operate the sweeper machine if required. Adhere and follow to safety rules, i.e. conduct safety dialogues, safety walk throughs, verify equipment safety guarding, etc.



  • Off-Season Activities:


Assist with mechanics and maintenance activities, following established routines. Complete assigned cleaning tasks as directed by the supervisor. Perform necessary facilities and building maintenance work as instructed by the supervisor.

Who Are We Looking For - Requirements




  • High School Graduate Diploma is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably tobacco related) with above average mechanical skills and at least one year of forklift truck driving experience.
  • Basic Computer skills to operate HMI, Leaf Point User
  • Forklift Certificate / License
  • Good communication skills
  • Be able to lift weights and move materials
  • Well-organized, responsible and reliable
  • Understands importance and is willing for follow safety requirements
  • Fluent English
