Description

The Senior Director, Affordability will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of affordability initiatives across the Enterprise. The Senior Director will report to the VP, Affordability and will manage a small team of 2-4 design and implementation analysts. The Senior Director, Affordability will work collaboratively with teams across the organization to drive cost-saving solutions for Medica while at the same time maintain or improve the quality of care for Medica's members.

Key Accountabilities



  • Affordability Strategy and Implementation

    • Work closely with the VP, Affordability to help shape and execute the company's affordability strategy.
    • Lead cross-functional efforts to ideate, design, and implement solutions to reduce healthcare costs while maintaining high-quality care.
    • Develop processes to monitor and evaluate the success of affordability initiatives and make adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals.


  • Collaboration and Innovation for Affordability Ideation and Execution

    • Develop relationships with affordability levers (Payment Integrity, Pharmacy, Network, Clinical) to understand key affordability concerns for review and to collaborate with on areas of unmanaged spend.
    • Engage with front-line staff to support idea development, solution design, and successful implementation of initiatives.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation within the affordability team and across the organization.


  • Collaboration for Affordability Initiatives support

    • Partner with internal teams including enterprise analytics, finance, actuary, operations, and transformation office to support affordability efforts.
    • Work with stakeholders to size initiatives and establish financial value for new affordability solutions.
    • Lead monthly review sessions on measuring and monitoring current initiatives.


  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders to share progress, challenges, and outcomes related to affordability initiatives.
    • Present findings and recommendations to leadership teams, ensuring a transparent approach to affordability efforts across the organization.


  • Team Development & Management

    • Lead and mentor a small team of design and implementation analysts, driving high performance and professional development.
    • Create an environment that encourages creative problem-solving and data-driven decision-making.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business, or related field preferred, or equivalent working experience in related field. Masters degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, with at least 5+ years at a health plan
  • Clinical background and experience in utilization management preferred


Skills and Abilities



  • Proven experience leading cost-saving initiatives in healthcare
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex concepts to
    different audiences
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders to achieve strategic goals



This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work from the designated office, Minnetonka MN, Madison, WI or Omaha, NE on average, 2+ times per week.

The full salary range for this position is $143,500 - $246,000. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation in addition to base salary.
