Position Summary:

Join our exciting & dedicated team at Vallen as a Tech Services Supervisor focused on IFR in our Vallen Safety Services group. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing daily activities and performance for a team of service technicians to ensure the quality of work provided to the customer meets and/or exceeds Vallen's contract and the customer's service level agreement. You will also ensure that assigned team members are properly trained and are working in compliance with Vallen's standard operating procedures, company policies, and customer specifications.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs staff supervisory duties for an assigned team of Service Technicians; responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, selecting, hiring, coaching, training, counseling, delegating work assignments, and disciplining associates while enforcing company policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Proper washing, disinfecting, inspecting, and maintenance procedures, to maintain respirator inventory, consisting of but not limited to, half-mask respirators, full-faced respirators, constant flow respirators, duo-flow respirators, welders back-packed respirators, and PAPR's.
  • Maintain general population coverall inventory, adjusting orders to sizes, as needed for population usage. Removal, repair processing, or disposal of damaged garments.
  • Maintain a general population inventory of respirators, in designated sizes and designated manufacturers for use by company employees
  • Acts as the liaison between Vallen Safety Services and the customer; interfaces and collaborates with the customer for coordination of work requests and desired job activities.
  • Reviews and approves all labor times reported by assigned technicians.
  • Demonstrates awareness of profitability and utilization rates, cash flow, and other company metrics.
  • Continually looks for process and/or cost savings improvement opportunities at the client and collaborates with the client on desired service offerings.
  • Performs and/or oversees safety and technical audits.
  • Schedules and performs quality inspections.
  • Accountable for asset management and protection
  • Accountable for client facility protection.
  • Ensures all documentation for work requests and assignments are filled out accurately, completely, and submitted for proper invoicing; ensures required copies are provided to the customer upon servicing equipment.
  • Maintains accurate inventories related to job and maintenance orders.
  • May be required to respond to emergency field calls and/or assist with parts and equipment requests in the absence of a technician.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of all regulatory standards i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, Manufacturer guidelines, and VSS SOPs; always exhibits safe work practices.
  • Proper washing and handling of PPE materials used by employees such as Smelter Hoods, and Jackets, Electrical Arc/Flash protective hoods and jackets, Red Gore-Tex Acid plant coveralls, Smelter FR coveralls as needed, and other requests approved by Health and Safety.
  • Maintain a working level of inventory for all items needed to support service levels, such as warehouse supplies (detergents, bleach, etc..) respirators, respirator parts, (gaskets, valves head straps, etc..) cartridges, instrumentation calibration gases, sensors, water barriers, various parts, and all items needed to maintain work production, and cleaning.
  • Assist company employees with properly checking in and out, PPE from the Industrial Hygiene center, consisting of proper respirators, coveralls, hoods and jackets, hearing protection, towels, and other items as needed.
  • Maintain records of the last fit-test completed for quick reference and check-in/out lists for equipment issued to employees and authorized guests.
  • Complete monthly calibrations and level one sensor change out for inventory of Multi-Gas monitors, consisting of but not limited to:
    • 50+ handheld monitors: ITX, TMX-412, LTX-310, M-40, & 6 -3m Air panels.
  • Maintain records of calibrations, and repairs for each piece of equipment in inventory and maintain a monthly running log of calibration.
  • Schedule and complete work orders for equipment maintenance.
  • Communication with Safety Department personnel to ensure needs are met and orders are processed. Convey concerns or issues that arise and work in close concert with Industrial Hygienist or other designated Safety personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • High School or GED
  • Bachelors in related field of study or
  • 6+ years of applicable direct experience
  • 5+ Current Certifications (manufacturer/state) in a fire protection related field
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Advance communication, initiative, and problem-solving skills
  • Specific -- RELEVENT experience
    • In-depth experience inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing Life Safety Equipment.
    • Demonstrated ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
    • Current motor vehicle license with a good driving record; Commercial Driver License (CDL) required if transporting loads of hazardous materials.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with hand tools.
    • Demonstrated ability and/or competencies to manage a team successfully.
    • Demonstrated positive customer service and the ability to manage multiple customer accounts.
    • Demonstrated advanced computer skills.
    • Must be able to read, write and comprehend English.

  • Ability to work in dusty conditions.
  • May work in hazardous environments and be required to follow safety precautions and use or wear appropriate safety equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • Must have the ability to walk at a regular pace for up to 15 continuous minutes. Must be able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
  • Must be able to bend, climb, and stoop as needed for access of equipment to repair and service.
  • The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairwells up to 15 high.
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, case) up to 24' high.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
