Technical Expert - Stress/Methods

General Summary:

Experienced senior/lead aerospace stress engineer with significant experience in the analysis, certification and testing of metallic and composite primary structure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Serve as subject matter technical expert stress engineer responsible for development and verification of structural analysis methods within the Honda Aircraft engineering team.

* Primary responsibilities will include:

* Evaluate structural integrity of airframe components including analysis for static strength, stability, stiffness, fatigue and damage tolerance and other specified design requirements and objectives.

* Apply classical hand analysis methods with finite element based internal loads to ensure validation by test.

* Generate and review stress analysis reports.

* Develop analytical methods and programs based on industry literature and internal research/testing.

* Provide support to team members for creation of analysis tool automation.

* Author test plans and reports for component testing including test article, test setup and instrumentation definition.

* Provide mentorship and guidance to younger engineering staff members. Guide decisions on analysis methods and tools.

* Collaborate with other engineering disciplines including structural and system design, external loads, materials and processes, structural testing, and certification to ensure the aircraft design is compliant with regulatory requirements.

* Must be able to work in a dynamic and challenging environment where you will be expected to take ownership of assigned projects and see them through to completion.

* Provide recommendations and status updates to management.

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:

* BS required, MS preferred Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

* FAA DER is a major plus but not required. (14 CFR 23/25)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Experience with 3D solid modeling (CATIA v5, Unigraphics)

* Experience with programming languages (Python, VB, Matlab)

* Expert in Finite Element Analysis (NASTRAN, ABAQUS)

* Proficient computer skills with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project

* In-depth understanding of loading scenarios, free body diagrams, behavior of aircraft components and mechanics of composite materials.

Physical Requirements:

* Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.

* Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

* Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).

* Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

* Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.

* Effectively communicate in Business English language.

* Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.

* Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided "reach assistance technology" or "movement assist technology" (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly's, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
