Responsibilities:

  • Assist with intake processes.
  • Provide direct supervision for and assist clients with daily living needs.
  • Work with adolescents in a one-to-one setting.
  • Assist staff in conducting effective group sessions.
  • Contribute to the overall success of multi-disciplinary team including attendance at team conferences.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Grade C02: Residential Counselor I: HSD/HiSet/GED or Associates degree required.

  • Grade C04: Residential Counselor II: Requires a Bachelor's degree; preferably in the field of psychology or human services.

  • Desire to serve others required.

  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, ability to work independently, and ability to contribute to team objectives required.

  • Preference will be given to those with experience in social services and/or working with program's population.

Summary:

Implement programming for residents on a consistent basis in accordance with Youth and Family Division standards, policies, and procedures. Maintain supervision and safety of clients at all times. Duties listed below are more specifically defined and are outlined as part of the Employee Performance Review System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Interventions: Work with residents to assist with activities of daily living and foster a sense of safety which includes personal hygiene and self-care skills, symptom management, relapse prevention, problem solving and conflict resolution, and other interventions as necessary. Provide one on one coaching, support, and crisis intervention to clients as needed. Groups: Lead at least one group per day as assigned. Will work with team and follow the scheduled topics based onevidence based group topics and curriculum. Work with supervisors to access develop group material. Continuity of Care: Participates in treatment teams and shift change to present milieu information about each client to the team and maintain open communication. Supervision: Clients must remain in a continuous line of vision at all times. Face checks and signs of life checks are assigned on a rotating basis 24/7. This responsibility is to view and document location and sign of life for every client in the census during your shift and designated check time. Routine Paperwork: Prepare daily milieu notes on assigned clients, group notes, communication log entries, incident reports as needed, and other required paperwork to ensure the program meets Youth and Family Division Standards. Treatment Planning: Maintaining knowledge of current client treatment goals, documenting them on daily notes and working with them utilizing Motivational Interviewing to assist in increasing their readiness for change. Facility Upkeep: Work with residents to maintain the facility on a daily basis including group space upkeep, organization, bedroom upkeep, and other light housekeeping duties. Provide quality rehabilitation services including but not limited to group organization, crisis intervention planning, close supervision of clients, attending biweekly staff meeting, trainings, and the searching and taking inventory of client belongings. Maintain Competencies: Human Rights, Dual Diagnosis, Infection Control, CPR, CPI, First Aid, agency and divisional policy and procedures as well as other required competencies per BSAS/DPH regulations. Perform other related job duties

Competency:

1. Maintain and comply with regulations for BSAS and DPH.

2. Effective communication with consumers, peers, other professionals.

3. Ability to write effective milieu notes, and communication logs.

4. Ability to observe, document, teach and respond to mental and physical health as well as other needs of consumers such as community living skills, substance abuse education, crisis intervention, etc.

Education and/or Experience:

Residential Counselor I: Associates degree in psychology or related mental health field.

Will consider High School diploma with experience in human services

Residential Counselor II: Bachelors degree

Experience working with programs population required
