Resource Adequacy Engineer

The Capacity Requirement and Accreditation group within System Planning seeks an innovative individual to meet these exciting challenges.

To prepare for and manage the grid of the future, ISO New England is growing! As such, our System Planning team will temporarily relocate to our Windsor campus effective Jan. 1, 2025.

How you will make an Impact:

The individual will be part of a passionate, focused, and results-oriented team that identifies the system capacity requirements for the Forward Capacity Market and leads the implementation of our new resource accreditation processes. The goal is to implement methodologies that will more appropriately accredit contributions of various technologies to meet the region's resource adequacy and reliability needs.

• Perform simulations of the bulk power system using software tools, including but not limited to GE MARS and Energy Exemplar PLEXOS
• Provide technical and procedural leadership, coordination, and facilitation within the ISO and among stakeholders (Market Participants, NEPOOL and ISO Committees, regional and national regulatory entities, and other stakeholders)
• Work with the ISO staff and consultants to conduct various adequacy/reliability studies and subsequently prepare written reports detailing the objectives, assumptions, methods, findings, and recommendations
• Support and serve on internal and external regional and national committees, task forces, and working groups as required
• Respond to data and information requests from regional/national reliability organizations and state and federal regulators

What you need to be successful in this role:

• A Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, statistics, or a related field. Master's preferred
• A self-motivated, patient, detail-oriented individual who works well in a team environment and communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
• Working knowledge of the probabilistic loss of load or unserved energy calculation methodologies and/or economic generation production simulation techniques is desirable
• Desired Not Required:

• Direct modeling experience using GE MARS
• Analytical problem solver with working knowledge in at least one programing language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, and SAS), familiarity with Python programming preferred
• Knowledge of the New England generation and transmission system, including planning practices, real-time operational issues, and topology
• Familiarity with NPCC, NERC, ISO-NE, and/or FERC requirements
